Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Students,

On behalf of the teachers and staff, I warmly welcome you back for another exciting school year at Gilbert Avenue School. I hope that all of you had an enjoyable summer and that you are ready to embark on another productive and meaningful learning experience this school year.

I am eager to get back to work with our returning staff and look forward to bringing our new staff “on board” and into our Gilbert Avenue family. I continue to be impressed by our staff and know that they will have once again reinvented themselves over the summer in an attempt to sharpen their skills and become highly effective teachers.

I would also like to extend a welcome to our incoming kindergarten students. They will enter the building on the first day of school with some anxiety and fear and will leave us in June gleaming with confidence, joy, and with a love for learning.

I strongly encourage all of us as stakeholders to work together to make your child successful here at Gilbert. This can only be accomplished if you take an active role in your child’s education every single day. At Gilbert, the lines of communication are always open, so please contact your child’s teacher or me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the school year.

I also encourage you to get involved with our Gilbert Avenue Home and School Association, which has raised a lot of money toward our school improvement projects to benefit our student population. Any amount of time you could give to the association would be greatly appreciated by our entire school community.

Please continue to check the Elmwood Park Public Schools website ( for district information and link to Gilbert Avenue School for pertinent information about the school including the Principal's Message, school happenings and upcoming dates.

I look forward to working with each of you in our mission to prepare our young students for the challenges of the 21st Century.
